Are Stricter Internet Gaming Laws a Boon or Bane?

Are Europe’s ever-tightening internet casino laws destroying iGaming? The online gambling industry is so far removed from what is was twenty years ago. What began as an unregulated free-for-all, where more rogues than reputable operators existed, has turned into something with so many government regulations and mandates, that many companies are struggling to compete. Internet gambling was, at one time, the world’s second most competitive industry (behind adult websites, of course). Now, more companies are going belly up because there’s only so much room for competition to exist. The largest operations remain, buying up and absorbing all of the smaller operations that didn’t already abandon bankrupt offerings. Some would say we’ve gone from one extreme end of the scale to the exact opposite, taking a burgeoning industry and stifling it with so many laws that only the biggest, most lucrative companies can afford to pay licensing fees and still invest … Continue reading

The Shameful Promotion of Gambling without Morals

UK vs Canada Gambling Laws – A Simple Comparison Turns Ugly! Welcome, and thank you for your interest in reading what I’ve written hear today, but I warn you, the information you’re about to read, while factual (on my end) and informative (to those vested in iGaming) also includes my own ranting over the irresponsibility of others who seek only dollar signs, ignoring the humane side of this unique and volatile industry. With that being said, if still interested, please continue… I read an (arguably?) ill-conceived editorial today that had me scratching my head. I’m not going to name names or link to it for several reasons. First of all, I don’t wish to spread some of the ideals found within it. Secondly, it wasn’t a famous person or media outlet that published it. It was nothing more than a thoughtless online gambling affiliate looking to push some promotional links. … Continue reading

Beloved by grandchildren, Wheel of Fortune Slot triggers new slot machines based on game shows of old. In the North American casino scene, there is one slot machine that reigns supreme above all others. It is the iconic Wheel of Fortune, developed in the 1990s by IGT. It’s not a single slot machine, but rather a complete series of games they’ve been pumping out for more than two decades. Networking their progressives together, the game pays life-altering jackpots on a regular basis. What is it that makes this game so incredibly popular? You might be surprised. A few years ago, IGT’s marketing and development crews wanted to know the answer to that very question, so they sent out a group of surveyors to ask players in casinos from all over… Wheel of Fortune Slot Reminds Players of their Grandparents As kids, most of us had a special relationship with our … Continue reading

Playtech’s new Game Modifier Raising Controversy

Does Playtech’s ‘Game Modifier’ compromise fairness of online casino games? For decades, the integrity of casinos have been questioned by players from far and wide. In the early days of Las Vegas, it is well known fact that the mafia ran the city, and mobsters aren’t really known for their fairness. Strict regulation via government authorities eventually brought integrity to the land-based casino industry, but when internet-based gambling came along, all the old questions of fairness arose once more. Again, it took years of legislative efforts all across the globe to bring palpable order to the iGaming realm, but the industry has finally achieved a distinguished reputation for responsibility. So long as casinos are licensed and regulated in reputable jurisdictions, players can rest assured their getting a fair deal. At least, that was the perception before Playtech announced the release of its new Space Digger Slot. On the surface, it … Continue reading

UKGC Investigating Ladbrokes Sportsbook… Again!?

UK regulator to probe Ladbrokes Sports over promotional player profiling? The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has been on the warpath for well over a year now, seeking out any remote gaming operator that may be in violation of the region’s strict online gambling regulations. If the UKGC gets wind of inappropriate behavior, it will investigate, and if non-complaince is discovered, the result could be anything from a hefty fine to revocation of the company’s operating license. Stripping a license seems like an empty threat at this point, seeing as how the UKGC has never gone so far as to even temporarily suspend a license, regardless of the severity of any violation. These operators are their bread and butter, after all. Why eliminate your revenue source when you could fine it up to 7-figures? But I digress… According to the most recent reports, one of the British gaming regulators’ largest repeat … Continue reading

RGC goes All-In for Problem Gambling Prevention

Promoting diversification in educating Canadians to be responsible gamblers. Founded in 1983 on the principle of promoting a healthy gaming environment, the Responsible Gambling Council of Canada (RGC) has spent the last three decades working towards the vision of a nation free of problem gambling. As telescopic as the goal may seem, it’s one the RGC takes very seriously. Yet, in those three decades, statistics don’t seem to be changing much. It could be that their approach is all wrong.
