Gambling Strategies that Don’t Translate to Online Casinos

Best casino strategies that you can’t employ at online betting sites. Most of us enjoy a friendly wager now and again. Of those who do, most prefer to make smart bets that have a better chance of paying out. Gambling strategies can be an effective way to minimize risk and losses, while giving us a stronger sense of accomplishment when we win. For the most part, land-based and online casinos are the same. They offer the same great games, with the exact same rules of play. But the strategies involved don’t always translate from the physical to the digital realm. Best Casino Strategies that Don’t Work at Online Betting Sites The only discernible difference between live and online casino games is the use of RNG-based software. A lot of terrestrial casinos utilize electronic games these days, but over the internet, every game is governed by a random number generator (RNG) … Continue reading

Do You Have a Healthy Relationship with Gaming?

BCLC invests in PlayPlanner to promote healthy casino gaming in Canada. Gaming regulators across Canada have spent the last few years seeking ways to quell public outcry. Since the dawn of internet gambling in particular, its been feared that problem gambling will swell out of control. Prior to multi-provincial regulation of iGaming, evidence surfaced to support those concerns. Researchers were commissioned to study the situation and recommend solutions. What they’ve come up with is a fundamental need to raise awareness and promote greater responsibility. All this time, regulators have been pumping revenue into the promotion of gaming. Every other commercial encourages adults to go out and buy a lottery ticket. Billboards depict the broad-grinning excitement of slots players and table games enthusiast. Such advertisements aren’t going to go away – the government does need to sustain its most abundant source of entertainment-driven revenue. However, they will be promoting greater responsibility … Continue reading

US DOJ Aims to Reverse Online Gambling Laws, Again

US DOJ files appeal to include all internet gambling activities in Wire Act. To the surprise of no one with any knowledge of the situation, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) is still donning their summer flip-flops. Following a sorted history that goes back more than a decade, the federal administration is hoping to see the definitions with in the Wire Act of 1961 altered to include all forms of online gambling. At present – as it has for the last 8 years – the Wire Act makes it illegal to offer sports betting over any type of telecommunication service, including the internet. Such activities can only be offered, where legally regulated, at a licensed retail sportsbook. Since the reversal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) earlier this year, sports wagering is being legalized and regulated in more and more US states, which seems to be drawing … Continue reading

Microgaming welcomes American Slots from Gameburger

Microgaming inks exclusivity contract with all new Gameburger Studios. Earlier this week, Microgaming hailed the launch of Relic Seekers, a new fantasy adventure online slot machine from their exclusive content partners at Pulse 8 Studios. What sets that digital gaming lab apart from many of their others partners is its predilection and aptitude for building Asian themed games. Why this seemingly irrelevant detail stands out so much to me is that just one day later, Microgaming was lauding a new exclusivity contract with a very different kind of iGaming software company, Gameburger Studios. This latest partner is a perfect parallel, with a team that focuses its energy primarily on the development of distinctly American slots games. With diversity and rapid expansion being prominent goals for the owners of the Quickfire portfolio, I’d say Microgaming is doing a rather fantastic job lately. In fact, I think they’d got this business figured … Continue reading

Flash Casinos to Disappear by Late 2020

Gone in a Flash: HTML5 open web tech to power 100% iGaming in 2020. Anyone who’s browsed the web for ten years or more should be well aware of the impact Flash technology has had on the computer-verse. In the 1990s, it gave birth to a whole new realm of possibilities. Everything from animated graphics, to in-browser video games, to entire websites were built in Flash; all powered by the universal Adobe Flash plug-in. In 2017, Adobe announced an “end of life” for Flash to come in late 2020. At that point, updates to the multimedia software project were abandoned. In response, Google Chrome developers turned off Flash and disabled the ‘ask to run‘ option by default. Anyone wishing to run Flash, or even get a message asking to run it, would have to enable it manually in their browser – not just once, but every browsing session. Some called … Continue reading

Are Stricter Internet Gaming Laws a Boon or Bane?

Are Europe’s ever-tightening internet casino laws destroying iGaming? The online gambling industry is so far removed from what is was twenty years ago. What began as an unregulated free-for-all, where more rogues than reputable operators existed, has turned into something with so many government regulations and mandates, that many companies are struggling to compete. Internet gambling was, at one time, the world’s second most competitive industry (behind adult websites, of course). Now, more companies are going belly up because there’s only so much room for competition to exist. The largest operations remain, buying up and absorbing all of the smaller operations that didn’t already abandon bankrupt offerings. Some would say we’ve gone from one extreme end of the scale to the exact opposite, taking a burgeoning industry and stifling it with so many laws that only the biggest, most lucrative companies can afford to pay licensing fees and still invest … Continue reading

Deliberating the Proposed Ban on Credit Cards at Internet Casinos

iGaming credit card ban a fix for problem gambling, or just an inconvenience? In the last two weeks, the iGaming headlines have been alight with news that some remote gambling jurisdictions may institute a ban on credit cards at internet casinos. First, the UK announced it was organizing a study to look into the matter. Then, the very next week, New Zealand‘s gaming regulators proposed a ban on credit card gambling deposits. The fact that the UK is even considering it is, of course, going to raise a red flag for all responsible gaming jurisdictions. The UK operates is the world’s most functional and successful iGaming market, setting a high bar for others to follow. The topic we aim to deliberate on today is not whether such a ban will or will not be imposed, but rather… Can an iGaming Credit Card Ban Fix Problem Gambling? New Zealand’s Department of … Continue reading

Playtech to be OLG’s New BetBuddy for Responsible Gambling

Playtech joins Ontario in responsible online gambling campaign. The promotion of responsible gambling has long been a priority of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. The OLG is tasked with enforcing regulatory compliance among all gaming entities in the province, including land-based casinos and charitable gaming facilities, as well as the PlayOLG iGaming website. That job has grown indubitably larger in recent years. Ontario has allocated the managerial duties across dozens of land-based casino to private companies, easing their own load, but at the same time doubling their need for intense scrutiny of those operations. Expansion of the online gaming venue also requires a deeper and more meaningful level of supervision. That’s where the provincial regulator’s partnership with Playtech comes in. The two have been working closely together since 2014, with the London-based digital gambling games publisher supplying content and backend services for Ontario’s online gambling website. Now, their partnership … Continue reading
