Interac Canada Casinos: Play Games you Know with a Payment You Trust

Everybody has a favorite way of banking. Whether it’s shopping online or in person, paying for a subscription service, sending money to a friend or loved one at home or abroad – most of us have grown to trust a particular method or two along the way. If you happen to be Canadian, odds are, you’re a devoted fan of ultra-fast, ultra-secure Interac payments.

Interac is a Canadian exclusive. A select few international merchants can accept Interac payments, but only Canadian banks come with Interac services pre-installed. When I say pre-installed, I mean just that. Interac isn’t like prepaid cards or web wallets. You don’t have to go buy it, or sign up for it. If you have a Canadian bank account, there’s a very high probability you also have automatic access Interac.

The system was developed by Canadian banks, for Canadian banks. At least 95% of the nation’s financial institutions – government banks, credit unions and more – employ the Interac payment system. If your bank happens to be one of them, you can start depositing at Canada Interac Online casinos right now. Keep reading, and we’ll show you how to do this, and which trusted online casinos accept Interac.

Note: Do not confuse Interac Online with Interac E-Transfers. They run on the same network, but in practice, they are two very different ways to make a payment. If you’re looking for the other version, please see our review of Interac eTransfer Casinos Canada.

What Is Interac Online?

Interac Online is an online banking system shared by most of Canada’s financial institutions. It was developed by the nation’s Big Five Banks back in 1984. As a network, its purpose was to give banks and their account holders greater and faster access to their money. In its early days, that meant moving funds rapidly across a cooperative internal banking network. Today, it means securing and facilitating transactions anytime, anywhere, in the blink of an eye.

Interac Online is the brand’s “online banking” service; one of many services it provides – everything from debit cards and direct deposits, to mobile-centric Interac E-Transfers. Interac Online allows users to easily send and receive funds directly through their bank account, using their existing online banking credentials.

The only thing standing between Canadians and Interac Online services is whether their current bank, credit union or other financial institution is among the many Interac network partners. Which brings us to…

How Do I Know if I Can Use Interac?

If your bank is a part of the Interac network, you can use Interac. It’s that simple. If you’re not sure, look at your debit car or log onto your online bank account and look for an Interac logo (see images below). If you don’t see the logo, a quick phone call to your bank will answer your question, too.

You may also want to have a look at the current list of Interac Network Partners here (link opens in new window; scroll down to alphabetical list of network participants).

Another option is to take the initial steps of depositing at an online casino. Choose Interac as your deposit method of choice, then scroll through the list of banks. If your bank’s name appears, you can use Interac. If not, you can’t – simple as that.

How Secure are Interac Online Payments?

Security is the number one reason most Interac users choose this method, especially online gamblers. Developed by government banks, you can rest assured Interac employs the strictest securirty measures, constantly updating its systems as new technology emerges.

It’s not just the securirty of your payment, but the security of the online casino or merchant you’re transacting with, that makes Interac Online so very popular. Since expanding into international markets, Interac only does business with reputably licensed and regulated acquirers. You won’t find any slip-shod gambling websites transacting with Interac, because Canada’s Big Five would never allow it. They research and confirm the integrity of every merchant before approving it for Interac usage.

Can I Gamble Anonymously with Interac?

No. Your identity is directly associated with your bank account. Therefore, using Interac to send money will link your ID to that payment. If you were hoping for a more private payment method, may we suggest prepaid cards or crypto currency.

How Fast are Interac Online Deposits? – Instant!

Deposits made with Interac Online are virtually instantaneous. Because you’re logging into your online bank account to confirm the purchase, you can’t possibly attempt to send an amount of money you don’t have available in that account. The moment you press the button to submit the payment, Interac communicates electronically with the merchant to confirm the money is on its way.

While the recipient of that money doesn’t instantly receive it, they will know without a doubt that it’s coming. Online casinos are perfectly happy to credit their players with that money. It’s a win-win situation for casinos and players alike.

As for withdrawals, banks aren’t quite so generous as online casino operators. International transfers can take 1-3 business days to reach their destination bank. Add onto that that average 12-48 hour time withdrawal requests sit in ‘process pending’ state, and you’re looking at about 3-5 days.

Cost of Interac Canada – Rates and Fees

For so many years, Interac was a free service that just worked. The same can be said today, to a degree. You see, Interac does not charge any fees to customers. It collects miniscule (usually less than $0.01) fees from issuers and acquirers; (i.e. financial institutions and merchants). Thus, as far as Interac is concerned, it’s service is free to all customers of participating banks.

However – and this is a Big However! Your financial institution may charge you a fee for using Interac. Most banks, and even some merchants, will pass on the cost of their Interac usage (and then some) to their customers.

The chances of being charged for an online payment, such as a casino deposit, are extremely slim. We know of no online casino or bank that charges a fee for making a payment. If you use Interac to withdrawal funds to your bank account, then you’ll probably pay a fee of $1-2. Using your Interac Debit at an ABM will likely cost you $2-3.

If you are charged a fee of any amount, just know that it’s your bank, AMB owner, or merchant, that’s charging you. Interac on its own is a free service.

How to Make a Casino Deposit with Interac Online

If you’ve used your financial institution’s online banking service before, you’ll have no trouble making Interac casino deposits. Simply log on to the casino’s website, choose Interac Online as your payment method, and select your bank name from the drop down list. You’ll be redirected to that bank’s website, where you’ll log in to your online bank account as usual. From there, you’ll review the payment details and, if all looks good, submit the payment.

In this way, you’re never sharing any sensitive financial information with your online casino, or any other merchant you choose to pay via Interac Online. The only information they get is the name of your bank.

The brief video below shows just how easy it is to pay with Interac Online. (Note: Video has no sound.) If you still need more help, check out the step-by-step instructions below.

How to Cash Out with Interac

While deposits are fairly common, it’s very rare to find an online casino that supports Interac Online withdrawals. Rare, but not unheard of. The process for cashing out is quite different, though. It’s not like a deposit, where you choose a bank and login to it from a new window. It’s more like a bank transfer, wherein you have to enter your bank account details.

If you chose Interac Online for deposits to keep your banking details private, Interac Online withdrawals may not be for you. If you chose them out of sheer convenience, and because you trust the Interac network, then it could be a great choice.

Note that these payments can take a few days to arrive in your bank. You must first wait for the casino to approve the request, which generally takes 12-48 hours; (known as “pending processing” time). From there, an international bank transfer can take 1-3 business days. So, you’re looking at a total time of 2-5 days.

Did You Know ?

They don’t call them the ‘Big Five‘ for nothing! Canada’s five largest banks – Bank of Montreal (BMO, 1817 est.), Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank, 1832 est.), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC, 1864 est.), Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD Bank, 1955 est.), and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC, 1961 est.) – account for approximately 5,310 of the country’s 5,783 banking branches. That’s about 92% of all banking institutions in Canada.

According to the latest data from Statista, these five banks alone possess total assets worth more than $6.4 trillion. They serve over 56.6 million customers worldwide, and employ over 350,000 people across Canada. And, as the originators of this exceptional financial network system, they all support Interac transactions. They aren’t the only ones, either.

As of now, the next five largest banks, albethey much smaller in comparison to the Big Five, now also support Interac. These include Desjardins, Nation Bank of Canada, HSBC, Laurentian, and Canadian Western. Altogether, the Interac network easily serves no less than 95% of Canadians. To top it off, Canada is the world’s most banking-oriented nation, where 99% of all adults have a bank account. It just goes to show how much trust Canada puts in its banking system, thanks in part to its superior, Canadian-exclusive Interac payment network.
