New Shorelines Casino in Ontario, Canada opens today.
Today is the big day for residents of Peterborough, Ontario. The newest Shorelines Casino will open its doors for the first time, and all are invited to come join in the festivities this evening. If you don’t have any plans for this evening, keep reading, and plan to arrive early.
Ontario Gaming East Limited Partnership (OGELP), the subsidiary of Great Canadian Gaming (GCG) in charge of the operation, announced the big event on Thursday. According to the press release, the grand opening celebration will commence at 5:00pm, with special gifts for the first 2,500 attendees.
Grand Opening of New Shorelines Casino in Ontario, Canada
The new casino, located at Crawford Drive and The Parkway, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5pm today. According to the press release, the first 2,500 guests to enter will receive “a special gift to commemorate the opening.” There will also be live entertainment throughout the evening.
Bryan Buchanan, General Manager of the new gambling facility, is especially enthusiastic about tonight’s party, as the grand opening isn’t just a first for locals and travelers who come out tonight to celebrate. “Opening day will be an exciting one for our 300 team members,” he explains, noting that 180 of them are new employees of the GCG family. Buchanan says they “are all very eager to showcase the new facility to the City and the marketplace.”
Most of those new staff members were hired during the company’s job fair in May. The veteran workers of the new casino—approximately 150 of them—have been transferred over from the company’s nearby Kawartha Downs.
“As we get ready to open our doors and offer an unparalleled gaming and entertainment experience to our guests, we want to recognize the efforts of all the local businesses and trades personnel who worked on this project,” adds Buchanan. “Hiring local talent was very important to us and together we have constructed an exceptional facility.”
Shorelines Casino Peterborough, Now and In the Future
Ontario’s newest casino has been in the works for well over two years, including the final construction phase that began in early September 2017. The gaming options at Shorelines Casino Peterborough are replacing the OLG Slots parlour that was previously available at Kawartha Downs.
The larger, more modern facility, spans a capacious 50,000 square feet, full-service casino gaming floor. It’s equipped with all modern gaming options, including a racebook, 500 slot machines and 22 live dealer table games, featuring blackjack, baccarat, roulette and more. Parking is free, there is a restaurant and buffet for dining, as well as live entertainment facilities.
A few months from now, accommodations will be available to guests of the new Shorelines casino in Ontario, Canada. Owners broke ground on the upcoming 100-room hotel—Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton—back in May of this year. The plans call for many guest-friendly amenities, including a business center, meeting space, fitness center, indoor saltwater pool, laundry facilities, and later down the road, a 500-seat concert theatre. The grand opening celebration for that property is projected for May 2019.
Peterborough Mayor Daryl Bennett expects the new casino and hotel to be a boon for the community and its economy. He noted earlier this year a “shortage of accommodation facilities” in the city, and once it opens, it will create even more permanent jobs in the area.
