There’s a new, kinda weird, somewhat zany, entirely simple, yet wholly innovative casino game on the digital market these days. It’s called JetX, and it was developed by the boggling minds at Georgia-based SmartSoft Gaming. It’s based on an aircraft that is destined to explode sometime after taking off.

The player’s job is to eject the pilot(s) from the plane before it blows up. Do so, and you win. Fail, and you lose. That’s the gist of it. Let’s take a closer look at how t works, what it pays, and what your odds are of actually winning.

The game starts out with a jet plane on a runway. The plane is gearing up to take off, with two pilots aboard. My biggest pet peeve is that the game does not wait for the player to decide on and place a bet. You have about 5-7 seconds before the plane takes off, with or without a bet in place. The only bright side is that you can watch the plane and get a fee for what’s going to happen before you put any money on the line.

If you play the JetX demo on the SamrtSoft Gaming website, like I did, you’ll betting in fake GEL (Georgian Lari) anyway.

At the start, try to ignore what’s going on in the cinematic screen for a moment and focus on the bottom half, where the betting action takes place.

There are two different bets you can place. Think of it as betting on the Pilot and Co-Pilot. On the left is the pilot. First you’ll choose how much “GEL” to bet. Next, you’ll choose how long before the pilot ejects from the plane. In the example above, we’ve wagered 3.00 GEL that the pilot will last 3 seconds.

On the right we’re gambling with the fate of the virtual co-pilot. Here, we’re betting 2.00 GEL that he will last at least 5 seconds. Note that you do not have to place both bets. The second wager is entirely optional.

If the jet explodes before 3 seconds, we will lose both bets. If the jet remains mechanically airborne more than 3 seconds, but less than 5, we will win the first bet (9 GEL), but lose the second bet. The best possible outcome is that the jet does not explode before 5 seconds, in which case we win the first bet (9 GEL) and the second bet (10 GEL).

Auto On/Of: You probably noticed the AUTO buttons on the screenshot. These are handy if you want to repeat your wagers. You can toggle the Auto On/Off individually for the Bet and Collect on the first and second wager.

Bets Pay “For One”: All bets pay out at a ratio of “for one”, not “to one”. This simply means that you will not re4ceive your original bet back when you win a payout. If you wager 3 unites and win 6 units, you get “6 for 3” (i.e. they keep your 3 and give you back 6).

This is a critical component, because collecting a prize too early in the jet’s flight time could actually result in a loss.

Early Collection: If you’ve placed a bet with a pre-set Collect time of 10x (meaning the pilot will automatically jump out of the plane after 10 seconds, if it has not exploded yet), you can tell the pilot to jump early. Maybe you’re getting nervous after 6 seconds? A big green Collect button appears during the plane’s flight, showing how much you will win if you press it, ejecting the pilot early.

Other Notable Features: On the left side of the screen you’ll see a history of the flight time of the last 20 games. All times displayed in green are winning bets. Those in red are losing bets. On the right side of the screen is a much more detailed list of historical flight data. You can scroll down to see all flights over the last 24 hours.

Odds & RTP: The JetX online casino game is said to have a return of 97%. It’s hard to say exactly how this RTP is calculated. We have to assume they are basing the payout rate on the odds of the plane blowing up at any given time. From my own trials, I found that the jet blows up before 2 seconds at least half of the time. I’ve also seen it stay in the air for more than a minute, although it’s incredibly rare.

Based on the use of algorithmic RNG mechanics, a 97% RTP would insinuate that 51.5 out of every 100 flights will actually see the plane explode before it reaches 1.5 seconds – the minimum amount of time a player can choose to bet on. Then again, the payout potential on a winnable flight time is infinite, which means the chances of the plane exploding prior to 1.5 seconds is probably a lot higher.
