NetEnt turns to drugs and violence with branded Narcos and Vikings online slots.
In the real world, drugs and violence are taboo. In TV land, they can lay the foundation for the ultimate crowd-pleasing drama. Now, NetEnt is betting that scenario will carry over to the digital gambling realm. The Swedish firm is announcing the upcoming creation of two new interactive games, Narcos Slot and Vikings Slot.
This was a huge week for the industry leading online slots development firm. Company execs announced successful negotiations with two major production companies to develop those branded slot machines. They were also honored with the acceptance of yet another award for their ever-expanding trophy case.
If you haven’t seen it yet, Narcos is a Netflix original series. It gripped audiences worldwide with the release of its first season in 2015. Based on the true story of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura), the series – now in production of its fourth season – follows Escobar, the Cali Cartel, and the DEA agents tasked with taking them down.
Witnessing the exponential viewership, NetEnt secured a contract with Gaumont, producers of Narcos. The deal gives NetEnt the rights to develop a branded Narcos Online Slot game based on the Golden Globe and Emmy award-nominated series.
“We’re continuing to push boundaries with our branded games and Narcos is certainly one of our biggest deals to date,” says NetEnt CPO, Henrik Fagerlund.
Deal with A+E Promises Vikings Online Slots
Vikings, first aired in 2013 on the History channel, was another overnight sensation. It is one of the most successful and gripping television dramas of the last decade. Vikings is based on historical accounts of the legendary Norse hero, Ragnar Lothbrok. The series relays the story of the Viking legend, who rose from a farmer, to leading raids on England, to eventually claiming the throne of Scandinavia.
NetEnt signed a contract with A+E Networks to turn the enormously popular series, now broadcasting its fifth season, into an exclusive online slot machine. The Vikings Slot will hit virtual casino floors near the end of 2018.
“Vikings has quickly become a TV favourite since the first season in 2013 and appeals to a vast audience worldwide. It’s a classic and historical theme packed with action and we’re sure the players will be looking forward to the launch later this year,” says Fagerlund.
4th Straight GIA Casino Supplier Award
Securing contracts to produce two vastly popular, branded online slot machines isn’t the only thing worth celebrating around the NetEnt campfire these days. Just yesterday, the company was honored for the fourth year in a row as the Casino Supplier of the Year at the Gaming Intelligence Awards (GIAs).
To top it off, Chief Product Officer Henrik Fagerlund was personally honored at the GIAs. His achievements with were recognized, alongside two of his colleagues. NetEnt’s Fagerlund, Nadiya Attard, and Sandra Carrlson were all named among the GI’s HOT-50 2018.
Just one month into the new year, NetEnt is on track to soar past the competition. The new Narcos and Vikings online slots will further strengthen their existing branded content. These including major hits like the Guns n’ Roses, Jimmy Hendrix, Jumanji, and Planet of the Apes.
